How this score breaks down

Plastic in the product and its packaging Plastic-free
Lodge states its cast iron is just iron and 100% natural vegetable oil, heat-fused to form the seasoning, with the iron mix made from recycled steel, reclaimed iron, raw pig iron, and strengthening alloys. Lodge has been made without PFAS since the beginning, and the brand states it uses vetted third-party labs to verify its cookware is free of PFAS and of dangerous levels of lead and cadmium. Cast at Lodge's two foundries in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. The handle is integral cast iron.

About Lodge

Lodge Cast Iron has been making cookware in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, since 1896, and the family-owned company still runs two foundries there. Its skillets, Dutch ovens, and griddles are cast from a mix of recycled steel, reclaimed iron, and pig iron, then seasoned with 100% natural vegetable oil at the factory.

Lodge states plainly that its cast iron has been made without PFAS since the beginning and that it uses third-party labs to verify freedom from PFAS and from dangerous levels of lead and cadmium, though it does not name the labs. The pitch is durability at a low price: a Lodge pan costs a fraction of premium cast iron and lasts for decades, with the tradeoff of a rougher, heavier casting.
