Weleda dates to 1921, when physician Ita Wegman, philosopher Rudolf Steiner, and chemist Oskar Schmiedel began producing natural medicines and skincare in Switzerland and Germany, planting the company's own medicinal herb garden the very next year; the name honors Veleda, a title once given to wise, healing women.
