About Soap Distillery
Soap Distillery began in 2012 as a one-woman show when Danielle Martin, sipping an Old Fashioned in Chicago, decided the soap aisle needed cocktail-inspired scents and started making cold-process bars from scratch. It is still a small, Black-owned and woman-owned Chicago business, now grown to a small but mighty team. The brand makes bar soap from saponified sunflower, coconut and olive oils and refuses palm oil down to the derivatives, including its stearic acid. Its fragrance blends are stated phthalate, paraben and musk free, and every bar can be bought in a recycled carton the brand states is FSC certified through its supplier, or completely unboxed as a zero-waste option. Soap Distillery holds no third-party certifications of its own and says so plainly, footnoting exactly what its suppliers' certifications do and do not cover.
