About Murphy's Naturals

Murphy's Naturals was founded in 2013 in the Raleigh, North Carolina garage of Philip Freeman, a US Navy veteran who named the company after his dog Murphy. It makes plant-based mosquito repellents, from balms and sprays to candles and incense, built on essential oils instead of DEET. The company has been a certified B Corp since 2015, an independent audit of social and environmental performance, which we confirmed in the B Lab directory. It is also a 1% for the Planet member and states it donates 2% of revenue each year to environmental and community nonprofits. The brand publishes the exact % of every active oil in this balm, a level of disclosure most personal care brands never attempt, though the olive oil base is listed without its own %.
