About Avocado

Avocado was founded in 2016 by Mark Abrials, Jeff D'Andrea, Dan D'Andrea, and Jay Decker, who set out to prove a certified organic mattress could be built at a price mainstream families could reach. Its products are handmade in a California factory opened in 1987 by the immigrant family of Vy Nguyen, who joined through a 2018 merger and now leads the company as CEO. The brand makes certified organic mattresses, pillows, and bedding for adults and babies, including crib sheets and waterproof crib mattress protectors. It is a Certified B Corporation, an independent standard for a company's overall social and environmental practices, listed in the B Lab registry since May 2024, and its Global Organic Textile Standard license CU863637 checks out in the GOTS registry, valid into 2027. The brand states it also holds MADE SAFE, EWG Verified, and GREENGUARD Gold certifications across its mattresses and reports a 48% cut in greenhouse gas emissions since 2021. Even with its accessibility pitch this is premium bedding, and its waterproof protectors rely on a thin polyurethane film, a plastic layer, to do the waterproofing.
