About Ahimsa

Ahimsa was founded by Dr. Manasa Mantravadi, a South Asian American pediatrician who launched the company after her mother saw her grandchildren eating off plastic plates and, as the brand tells it, was not having it. The company makes colorful stainless steel dishes for kids: divided plates, bowls, cups, utensils, and to-go containers, designed in the USA and made in India from 304 grade stainless steel, with the rainbow finish created by bonding vaporized titanium to the metal rather than paint or coating. The push came from the 2018 American Academy of Pediatrics report urging families away from plastic at mealtime, and the brand frames the line as a pediatrician's love letter to children and the planet. The dishware is MADE SAFE certified, an independent screen against thousands of known harmful chemicals that we confirmed in the MADE SAFE registry, and the brand states it is also GreenScreen certified, a separate chemical-safety standard whose certified products must be free of PFAS, the persistent class of nonstick chemicals. The honest notes: this is premium-priced kids dishware, and stainless steel can never go in the microwave.
