Bath & Body Soap Bar, Unscented

A very clean choice for anyone who wants an unscented bar with nothing extra in it. The bar and its box are plastic-free, and the unboxed version removes packaging entirely. In Meliora's own words, plastic may still be used upstream because raw materials can arrive at the factory in plastic.

1 / 10 Low plastic footprint $

An unscented body bar made from organic coconut and sunflower oils in a paperboard box, or with no box at all. MADE SAFE certified, Leaping Bunny certified, and made by a B Corp in Chicago.

How this score breaks down

Plastic in the product and its packaging Plastic-free
A recyclable paperboard box printed with vegetable-based inks, which Meliora says is compostable at home. You can also order the same bar unboxed as a zero-waste option; it ships with no package and may be wrapped in kraft paper so it does not stick to other items.
Microplastic shedding and leaching Doesn't shed
No plastic ingredients listed. The bar is saponified organic coconut and sunflower oils with glycerin and water.
End of life: persistence and recovery Recovers well
Recyclable, repairable, or genuinely recovered; low persistence.
Plastic-derived chemicals of concern No concerns
No phthalates, bisphenols, or PFAS.
Transparency and disclosure Fully disclosed
Full ingredient list published on the product page and printed on the front of the box.

About Meliora Cleaning Products

Meliora started in Chicago in 2013, after Kate Jakubas, then studying environmental engineering, could not find out what was in her own laundry detergent. She and Mike built the company around printing every ingredient on the label, and they still make everything themselves in their factory on the West Side of Chicago. Along with laundry powder and dish soap, they make this simple bath and body bar. Meliora is a woman-owned B Corp, which means an outside group has scored its social and environmental practices. Its bar ingredients are MADE SAFE certified, a program that screens products against a long list of harmful chemicals, and the company is Leaping Bunny certified, which confirms no animal testing. Meliora is candid that plastic can still show up upstream, since raw materials may arrive at its factory in plastic.
