About Jonathan's Spoons
Jonathan's Spoons began in 1978 when Jonathan Simons, working as a furniture-making apprentice, forgot to pack a spoon in his lunch and carved one from scrap wood. When he was later laid off from a canoe-seat factory in Maine, he turned that idea into a business, and the workshop is now in the rural town of Kempton, Pennsylvania. The company hand-carves cooking and serving utensils from wild cherry, which its supplier harvests mostly in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. Each spoon is finished with a light coat of food-safe mineral oil, and you can request it un-oiled at checkout. Everything is made by hand in a small American shop, so no two pieces are exactly alike.
